Safety In The Sun

Summer is practically here (especially if you live in a warmer area like I do). This means it’s time to get outdoors even more to go to the beach, camping, hiking, and oh so much more.

The sun is great! Not only does it help your body produce Vitamin D, but if you’re like me it also puts you in a great mood! 🙂

Just like with anything else we have to do our best to remember to be responsible about our health.

The sun can let off harmful UV rays that can damage your skin in as little as 15 mins. That’s pretty quick.

Here are some helpful tips to stay safe in the sun:

  1. Hats
  2. Sunglasses
  3. Light, but covered clothing
  4. Shade
  5. & of course Sunscreen

Sadly, alot of the sunscreens out there have some NOT so good stuff in them. Don’t worry i’m here to share with you some friendly options for sunscreen.

DIY Sunscreen Recipe:

Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 15 mins
Servings: 2 small jars

Ingredients:
-1/2 cup organic coconut oil (Costco)
-1/2 cup shea butter
-1/4 cup organic beeswax
-20 drops lavender essential oil (make sure to check out a dilution chart for kiddos)
-1 tsp carrot seed oil optional
-4 tbsp non-nano zinc oxide (nano zinc oxide can be dangerous since it’s small enough to absorb into the bloodstream)
Instructions:
-Over low heat, melt together the coconut oil, shea butter, & beeswax. Keep stirring as it melts.
-Once all melted together, remove from heat & add the zinc oxide and essential oils.
-Stir until well blended, and transfer to a couple small glass jars to cool.
